IVAN MENDEZ.
Ivan Mendez
is the Founder and President of Financial Liaison Group. He is the former
President and Chief Executive Officer of Scotiabank de Puerto Rico,
a position he held from 1998 until his retirement on January 29, 2004
when he established his consultancy practice. He is the first Puerto
Rican to have occupied the institutions top position in its 94-
year history.
Mr. Mendez
has held various executive positions in the banking sector over the
past 28 years. Between 1976 and 1984, he held key positions within Citibank,
N.A., where he rose to Unit Head with responsibilities for commercial,
corporate and multinational relationships. In 1984 he joined Roig Commercial
Bank where he established the banks first facilities in Hato Rey,the
center for Puerto Ricos banking district and developed the banks
marketing strategy for the Greater San Juan Metropolitan area.
In 1988
Mr. Mendez joined Scotiabank de Puerto Rico as Vice President-Commercial/Corporate
Banking with full responsibility for the Banks activities in these
areas. He participated in several important negotiations and closings
of loan and bond transactions involving hotels and shopping center developments.
He was also involved in several major projects throughout the Caribbean,
including Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and the Dominican Republic. In
1991, he was promoted to Senior Vice President assuming direct supervision
for the Banks branch network and retail activities in addition
to the above-mentioned responsibilities. In 1992, Mr. Mendez was promoted
to President and Chief Operating Officer with full responsibility over
the Banks day- to- day operations.
He was also a Member of Scotiabank de Puerto Rico Board of Directors,
Scotia Insurance Agency, and Scotia Merchant Bank.
Mr. Mendez
has been an active member in several professional and civic organizations.He
served as President of the Puerto Rico Bankers Association from 1995
to 1997 and was a Member of the Government Relations Council of the
American Bankers Association between 1995-1998 and 2002-2003. From 1992
to 1999, he was a Member of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico
Tourism Department Scholarship Fund and was a Member of the Board of
Directors of the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association from 1995 to
1997.
Other professional and civic affiliations during his career include
membership in the Puerto Rico Financial Analysts Association and Robert
Morris Associates. Between 1996 and 1999, he was a Member of the Board
of Directors of the Bankers Club and a Member of the Advisory Committee
of the P.R. Muscular Dystrophy Association from 2002 to 2002. Mr. Mendez
currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of RG Premier
Bank in Puerto Rico and RG Crown Bank in Orlando, Florida.

RAQUEL
MÉNDEZ
Raquel
Mendez heads FLGs Insurance Division and is the companys
Treasurer. She brings to this position 28 years of experience in the
healthcare and employee benefits sectors. Prior to becoming FLGs
insurance head, Mrs. Mendez was Vice President and New Consultative
Business Manager for Cigna Health Care, one of the nations largest
Employee Benefits provider. As its senior officer in Puerto Rico, she
was also the companys Representative and Liaison with the Office
of the Insurance Commissioner of Puerto Rico for all regulatory affairs.
Mrs. Mendez
outstanding career has encompassed management level work in sales, provider
relations, benefits, claims and customer service. Between 1985 and 1997
she was Claims/Customer Service Director for Puerto Rico and the USVI
with oversight responsibility for a team of 100 associates.
In 1995, Mrs. Mendez, who was identified as a key management resource
within Cigna, was promoted to Director of Claims, Provider/Relations
and Customer Service. In this position she was responsible for a human
capital budget of $4MM in addition to her other multiple responsibilities.
These included evaluation and approval of renewals and new provider
contracts with physicians, public/private hospitals, laboratories, PPOs
and EPOs.
Under Mrs.
Mendez stewardship, Cigna achieved record- breaking sales in Puerto
Rico and the USVI. She is credited with the development of extensive
and lasting relationships with the brokerage community along with the
implementation of a very successful training program within the organization
resulting in the mentioned sales increases, while maintaining the highest
level of total customer satisfaction.
ARTURO
NÚÑEZ
Arturo
Nunez has 30 years of experience as a Banker and Consultant. Between
1975 and 1989, he held various executive positions at Citibank where
he began as Account Manager in its Commercial Banking Division. He was
also Unit Head in the Corporate Banking Group and Risk Manager/Unit
Head for its Latin America Investment Bank.
While in these positions, Mr. Núñez was involved in multimillion
commercial/corporate loan transactions with local and multinational
companies as well as Commonwealth government agencies, including the
Government Development Bank for P.R. As Risk Manager, he supervised
the Caribbean and Central America Treasury Operations for a $400 million
investment portfolio.
He joined
Scotiabank de Puerto Rico in 1990 as Unit Head in its commercial and
corporate unit where he was involved in significant M & A transactions,
tourism and hospitality industry financings including hospital facilities
as well as in the management of a diversified loan portfolio.
His most recent experience as Consultant has involved engagements in
Real Estate workouts, Bankruptcy Court Reorganizations, and Debtor in
Possession financing situations among others.
